Giorgos had a magnificent performance (9-10 of May) in Finland(Espoo).
He made a world record 3 out of 3 wins in a FISTF circuit. He was just unstoppable and he lifts all the trophies as he won IO and GP in the open category and the GP in the veterans. In the same weekend Argyris Poulidis had an average performance. He finished third in the veterans, and stayed on the groups and on the barrage stage in the open.

Team Greek championship (day 2)

The day 2 (out of 3) of the team champion was played in Ilioupoli at 26th of April. Kickers played 4 games and we manage to win 2 (Lions and AEK) and lost another 2 (Falcons, Atlas).
At the end of day 2, we lay in the 4th place of the table.
The table is: 1 Falcons 30, 2 Atlas 24, 3 Roligans 24, 4 Kickers 15, 5 Aek 15, 6 Lions A 6, 7 Mirmidones 3, 8 Lions B 0.

The 1st Patras Cup in one open category was played in city of Patra Sunday April 25th. The Athens Kickers participated with 5 players.

Kapsabelis Markos was the big winner!

Vlassopoulos Thanasis was 4th.

Vlassopoulos Giannis passed the group but was excluded at last 8.

Koulosousas Serafeim and Koulosousas Dimitris stayed in the groups.

National tournament Dimitris Salamouris

The 2nd National tournament in the Open and the U15 category was played in Piraeus Sunday April 12th.
The Kickers dominated once more the U15 category. The usual suspect Giannis Vlassopoulos was once more the winner in the youngsters. Dimitris Koulosousas reached the semi finals, Manos Kapsabelis stayed in the barrage and Tasos Maroulas didn’t manage to qualify from the groups.
In the Open Aggelos Tsakiris returned to the good performances and reached the semis in division one. Giorgos Aggelinas stayed in the barrage, as Thanasis Vlassopoulos and Marcos Kapsabelis in the groups in the same category.
In division two Argyris Poulidis lost in the groups and Serafim Koulosousas finish third.

Young Guns-Greek team event u15 champions

Sunday March 30th, the first (at least the last decade) Greek team champion for under 15 players was played in Illioupoli.
Athens kickers consisted by Giannis Vlassopoulos, Tasos Maroulas, Dimitris Koulosousas, Manos Kapsabelis and Manos Lysicatos, wrote history for the club. They lift the trophy after a hard battle against the extraordinary teams of Piraeus Lions and Ilioupoli Roligans.
The future of the club is written with golden letters and the Athens Kickers family are extremely happy with the youngsters

National tournament

Sunday march 15th, the 1st national tournament was played in Piraeus.

In the under 15 category kickers dominated. Giannis Vlassopoulos was the winner and Dimitris Koulosousas was second.

In the open category we had: in division one Giorgos Aggelinas stayed in the quarter finals and Thanasis Vlassopoulos stayed in the groups.

In division 2 Marcos Kapsabelis win the title, Serafim Koulosousas was 4th and Argyris Poulidis was 8th.

Major of Mons

Athens Kickers were present in the biggest tournament of the season, the famous major of Mons.
And our presence was impressive. 8 players (the biggest ever number of players from a single Greek club), 2 teams (included the first ever participation for our B team).
Unfortunately the results of both the two teams and our players were not so good. All our players and teams if they were qualified from the group, stayed in the barrage.
The B team (Serafim and Dimitris Koulosousas, Giannis and Thanasis Vlassopoulos) stayed on the group as they lost against the hosts of Hennuyer and the Italians Sessana. The A team (Giorgos Aggelinas, Jaime Silva, Argyris Poulidis and Marcos Kapsabelis), qualified from the group as second (lost against Stembert, won against Palermo) but then lost in the barrage against Napoli.

In the open Jaime qualified from the group just to lose against Casciano in the barrage. Serafim, Argyris and Thanasis stayed in the group.
The same happened in the veterans as Serafim stayed again in the group, as at the same time Giorgos and Marcos lost in the barrage.
Another barrage defeat was there for our two U15 players. Giannis and Dimitris didn’t have any further luck to proceed any further.

Ilioupoli Satellite and GP Utrecht

The 3rd Greek Satellite of the season was played Sunday 8th of February in Ilioupoli. The Kicker’s players once again shined in this event.
In the Veterans the “classical” final Marcos Kapsabelis and Giorgos Aggelinas was played once again this season. Now Marcos had the upper hand as he beat Giorgos 3-1.

In the under 15 we had 2 players Tasos Maroulas and Manos Kapsabelis. Both of them reached the semifinal.

Another semifinalist for Athens Kickers was Thanasis Vlassopoulos in the Open category. In the same category Argyris Poulidis reached the last 8. At the mean time Marcos stayed in the last 16 and Both Giorgos Aggelinas and Giannis Vlassopoulos didn’t manage to qualify from the groups.

The same day another 2 Kickers played in a FISTF event. Serafim Koulosousas in his first travel out of the Greek borders and Aggelos Tsakiris participated in the Utrecht GP. Both of them played in the veterans. Aggelos reached the last 8 losing 0-2 from the Dutch De Jong. Serafim stayed in the groups after a bizarre draw between the two Dutch opponents Bolte and Creemers in the last game (!!!) of the group.

After almost half season is over the three different categories of the Greek ranking can find in their highest position the Kickers players.
In U15 the top3 are kickers: Giannis Vlassopoulos, Dimitris Koulosousas and Manos Kapsabelis.
In the Veterans the two on the top are Giorgos Aggelinas and Marcos Kapsabelis.
In the Open Giorgos Aggelinas lays in the second place.

Kickers’ excellence in National Cup

In the National Cup that took place in Pireaus, Sunday 18th of January, Kickers made a massive impression. 12 players were there and shined in all the individual competitions.
In the under 15 an all kickers final between Giannis Vlassopoulos and Dimitris Koulosousas, gave the trophy to Giannis. Manos Kapsabelis was at the semis and Manos Lysikatos and Maroulas Tasos stayed in the last 16.
In the Open we had 9 players. Aggelos Tsakiris and Giorgos Aggelinas reached the semis after excellent performance.But in the semis two unlucky results,Aggelos 3-4 down vs Triantafyllou and Giorgos 0-2 down to Nikos Beis.. Markos Kapsabelis stayed in the last 16. Dimitris Koulosousas. Thanasis and Giannis Vlassopoulos reached the last 32 and at the meantime Argyris Poulidis, Serafim Koulosousas and Fanis Ellinas stayed in the first round.
In the plate competition Serafim Koulosousas lift the trophy while Fanis Ellinas stayed in the semi final.In the team event the draw was not so polite to us. We faced Roligans in the last eight and we didn’t manage to qualify. We lost 3-1 even if we were equal till 25 minutes.

Satellite of Ilioupoli

The last official tournament of the year 2008, the 2nd satellite of the season, was played in Ilioupoli.
Another great performance of the Athens Kickers players was there.
In the Under 15 our two participants Tasos Maroulas and Manos Kapsabelis reached the semis in a 12 player’s competition. Newcomer Manos Lysikatos reached the last 8.
In the veterans another all Kickers final took place. Marcos Kapsabelis and Giorgos Aggelinas once again faced one another. But this time the smile was for Giorgos.
In the open we had three players. Thanasis Vlassopoulos was the best of the other two (Argyris Poulidis and Giannis Vlassopoulos) as he was the only one who managed to Qualify from the groups of 5. Then he stayed on the Barrage stage as he lost on sudden death by Pappas 2-3.

IO OF ILIOUPOLI

The second International Open in Greece was played in Ilioupoli the weekend 13-14 of December.
Athens Kickers were there and they did a great job. A semi final in the team event and wins in 2 out of the 3 individuals’ categories was the sum.

In the teams an easy qualification from the group as second, (lost against Falcons 0-3) send us to play a semi final against the local team of Roligans. A dramatic game was played. It was draw 2-2 at the end but unfortunately we were one goal down (8-9), so our Boys (Giorgos Aggelinas, Marcos Kapsabelis, Aggelos Tsakiris, Thanasis and GiannisVlassopoulos) didnt get to the final.

In the individuals we had another comfortable win of Giannis in the under 15. With a series of wins he lifts the trophy as he bet in the final Dimitris Koulossousas. The other 2 of the Kickers were also in good shape. Manos Kapsabelis reached the semi final and Tasos Maroulas the last 8.

In the veterans a full Athens kickers final was played. Marcos won Giorgos in Sudden death 1-0 and won the tournament. Argyris Poulidis stayed on groups.
In the open category the best was Giorgos. He reached the last 8, when Marcos stayed in the last 16. Argyris amd Giannis Vlassopoulos stayed on the groups and Thanasis in the Barrage stage.

Weekend 29-30 of November the Athens kickers team went to Berlin, in order to participate in the German GP. The team consisted by Thanasis and Giannis Vlassopoulos, Aggelos Tsakiris, Argyris Poulidis and Giorgos Aggelinas.

In the teams event we qualified as second from the group (won against Dortmund 2-1 and lost against Delft 0-3) to the quarter finals.
Then we had to play against Mattesburg. The final score was 2-2 but unfortunately we were short by three goals. The critical game was between Argyris vs M. Haider (2-3 for the Austrian) but Argyris had big complaints about the refereeing of this game.

In the Individuals we had:
The bright future of the club shined in 3 categories.
The 9 years old Giannis won the U12 easily 7-0 in the final against Broer,
Reached the semifinal in the U15 and the last 8 in U19.

In Open Thanasis Vlassopoulos in his first ever european tour stayed in the groups.
Both Giorgos and Argyris qualified from the group just to lose in the barrage stage against Bambersky 2-4 and Grorund 0-1 sd.
Aggelos reached the last 16 but then he stopped on Blumel 1-2.

In the Veterans Tsakiris was the best of the 3. He was very unlucky and lost on the last 8 against Bambersky on shots. Poulidis lost in barrage against Thoen 0-2 and Giorgos stayed in groups thanks to Henk Landzaat..

Greek National Team Championship

Sunday November 23rd the day 1 (out of 3) of the Greek National Team Championship took place in Illioupoli Athens.
Our team (Giorgos Aggelinas, Marcos Kapsabelis, Argyris Poulidis, Thanasis and Giannis Vlassopoulos) played 6 games, won 3 lost 3. Unfortunately we had two last minutes players cancellation in participating with the team. Giannis Karvounis and mostly Aggelos Tsakiris failed to appear in the tournament. So we gathered 9 points out of the possible 18. At the league table we lay in the 4th place – equal with Aek- with 9 points.
Let’s have a look at the team results: won Lions B 2-0, Highlanders 4-0 and Mirmidones with the same score. We lost Falcons 0-3, Roligans 0-4 and Atlas 1-3.
The league table is Falcons, Roligans and Atlas 18. Kickers and Aek 9, Lions A 6, Highlanders A 4, Mirmidones 2, Highlanders B 1, Lions B 0.

Thanasis joins us

The team of Athens Kickers gladly announces that Thanasis Vlassopoulos is the new member of our team. Thanasis is the father of our last transfer Giannis Vlassopoulos and this season was till now with no club. The previous season he was a player of Highlanders Haidari.Thanasis will make his first appearance with the club this weekend in the Greek Team Championship and the next one in Berlin.

GP BRUSSELS

The first travel abroad for the season 2008-09 took place in the Brussels GP the weekend 8-9 of November.
The Athens Kickers team (Aggelos Tsakiris, Giorgos Aggelinas, Marcos Kapsabelis,Fotis Labi) didn’t manage to qualify from a hard group. We lost 0-2 against Delft and 0-3 against Stella Artois Milano and we finished third on a group of 4 (we beat Brussels ‘C’ 3-0).
On the individuals Giorgos WAS GREAT. He played in the veterans and he managed to reach the semis. 5 straight wins (one in sudden death in the quarter finals against Manganello) sealed a place in the semis. Then he lost against the world champion Martin Bom 0-2.
Aggelos and Marcos also played in the veterans. Marcos lost in the barrage game against Nico Marks on shots and Aggelos in the last 16 on shots against Martin Bom.
Fotis played in the open. He was qualified from the groups and lost in the last 32 against Roufosse 1-5.

Satellite of Pireaus

Sunday 2nd of November we had the first satellite tournament in Greece for the running season. The Athens Kickers team (Fotis Labi, Aggelos Tsakiris, Giorgos Aggelinas, Marcos Kapsabelis and Argyris Poulidis), won their group against AEK and Roligans “B”. In the semifinal we lost on goals after a final score 2-2 against Atlas.
In the Veterans Giorgos Aggelinas reached the final but he was very unlucky and lost 1-2 .
In the U15 Manos Kapsabelis reached the semi final. At the same time Tasos Maroulas stayed in the barrage stage.In the Open Argyris Poulidis was our best player on the day. He reached the last eight. Marcos Kapsabelis stopped at the last 16,Fotis Labi stopped at barrage round and Diamantis Labi didn’t manage to qualify from the group.

Weekend 27-28 of September the first Greek International Open of the season was played in Pireus.
Athens kickers dominated in two of the four categories veterans and under 15.
In the veterans (12 players played) Aggelos Tsakiris won the event as he beat in the final 3-1 another Kicker’s player Marcos Kapsabelis. Giorgos Aggelinas reached the semis (lost against Aggelos 0-2).
In the under 15 category (16 participants), our latest transfer singing Giannis Vlassopoulos was simply unstoppable. With a numerous winning streak he once again lift the trophy. Other kickers players Manos Kapsabelis and Dimitris Maroulas also played but they stuck in the groups.
In the open category (61 players) the best result for a Kicker player was achieved by Giorgos Aggelinas as he reached the last 8. Marcos Kapsabelis and Giannis Karvounis were second best as they stopped in the last 16. Aggelos Tsakiris, Argyris Poulidis and Diamantis Labi reached the last 32. Fotis Labi also played in the tournament.

In the team event Kickers won their group against Atlas and Lions “C” team. Then we qualified to the last eight and we had to play against Olympia SC. A comfortable win sealed for Kickers a place in the semi finals of the international open. In the semis we had to face Roligans but our boys (Aggelos Tsakiris, Fotis Labi, Giannis Karvounis and Giorgos Aggelinas) didn’t make it.

The club of Athens kickers is proud to announce the latest transfer. The magnificent Giannis Vlassopoulos. The undisputed best U15 player (although he is just 9 years old) in Greece in the newest transfer of the club.
Giannis had won almost all tournaments in the U15 categories the last two years in Greece. His biggest achievement till now should be the participation in the Vienna WC 2008. There he could play in the U12 but he chooses to far more difficult U15 category. Even that he made this choice just for the experience; he managed to qualify to the last 16.
Already #13 in the world ranking aims too high for the years to come and the Kickers Family will be there to support him .

PORTO GP

Jaime Silva, our Portuguese player, participated in his country’s GP.
The Portuguese GP was played the weekend 5-6 of July in Porto.
Jaime lost his group to Garcia and qualified as second as he beat Coutinho.
In the barrage stage to the way for the last 16 he played against Coll. Unfortunately after a goalless game and sudden death, Jaime lost on shots.

Athens Kickers were present in the biggest festival of the year.
Two of our players Marcos Kapsabelis and Giorgos Aggelinas took part in the individuals, Marcos in open category and Giorgos in the veterans.
In the open category Marcos managed to qualify as second in his group. Daniele Bertelli the ex world champion was first and the Swiss Baumeler was third. So Marcos in the last 32 had to play against the Spaniard Raul Benita. Marcos lost 1-2.Giorgos in the veterans had more or less the same results. Second in his group, winner was Gunter Bambersky and third was Jeremy Bradley. Then Giorgos lost 1-3 against Erich Hinkelmann

ATHENS GP-AGGELOS WINS-KICKERS & JAIME IN SEMIS

The weekend 7-8 of June we had the annual Athens Grand Prix. The Athens kicker’s team was there and managed to succeed some worthily to mentioned results.
Day one we had the individuals veterans and the team event.
In the veterans Kickers dominated. Aggelos Tsakiris lift easily the trophy. Giorgos Aggelinas reached the semi just to loose against Aggelos. The other two players that participated Fanis Ellinas and Marcos Kapsabelis, qualified from the group and lost to the last eight.
At the team event we lead the group with 3 easy wins against Atlas Glyfada, Pireas Lions and Haidari Highlanders. Then in the barrage game we beat Olympia 3-1 and reached the semi final. Then we meet the famous Roligans, lost 3-1 (8-4 on goals). Later on Roligans won the final against Falcons.

Day 2 we had the Open category. 7 kickers were there. Jaime Silva was great and with a record of 6 straight wins reached the semi final. Then he lost 1-2 against Nikos Beis who finally won the tournament.
Marcos Kapsabelis reached the quarter final (lost against Beis). Giorgos Aggelinas leave the tournament undefeated in the last 16) lost on shots against Archimandritis).
Aggelos Tsakiris, Fotis Labi and Argiris Poulidis stayed in the last 32 and Fanis Ellinas was the only one who didnt qualify from the group.

Weekend May 31- June 1 our team participated in one of the biggest events of the year the Italian Major of Bologna.
Saturday May 31 we had the team event. The four players that filled the team were: Giorgos Aggelinas, Jaime Silva, Marcos Kapsabelis and Fotis Labi. The team managed to qualify the group as we finished second while the European champions Black and Blue Pisa won the group and Rieti were third. In the barrage stage we had to face the home team of Bologna. Unfortunately we lost on goal difference as we drew 2-2.

In the individuals Giorgos and Marcos played in the veteran’s category. Giorgos didn’t manage to qualify the group. Marcos was qualified and lost in the last 16 against the later on finalist Severino Gara.

In the open category Fotis qualified (Saturday afternoon) from the qualification session. Then he joined (Sunday morning) Jaime in the last 96.
In the new groups Fotis although that he won Spanish international Vicente Benita a he didn’t qualify on goals as all three players had the same points. The same luck for Jaime. A tough group with Navarro Mateos and Stefano Buono was the end for Jaime.

Giorgos is the New Greek Veteran Champion

Weekend 19-20 of April the annual Greek championship was played in Athens.
Our player participated with full success in all three categories.
In the veterans in an all Athens Kickers final Giorgos Aggelinas is the New Greek Veteran Champion as he beat in a sudden death final Marcos Kapsabelis. That result can confirm that Giorgos will play in the Vienna World Cup.
In the junior category our two under twelve players Manos Kapsabelis and Tasos Maroulas reached the semi finals. The champion is Giannis Vlassopoulos (Highlanders).
In the open category we participated with 6 players. the best were Sarantis Papidakis and Markos Kapsabelis reaching the last 8. At the meantime Aggelos Tsakiris, Argiris Poulidis and Fotis Labi reached the last 16.

Sunday march 30, the Greek divisions had their last games. 6 Kickers players participated on these categories. Aggelinas Giorgos, Papidakis Sarantis and Kapsabelis Marcos in division A, while Tsakiris Aggelos, Poulidis Argyris and Labi Fotis in division B.
In division A (champion is Kostas Triantafillou) Marcos finished 7th, Sarantis 8th and Giorgos 10th.
In division B Aggelos finished 2nd (promoted to division A for the season 2008-9), Argyris was 10th and Fotis 12th.

Major of Mons

The most popular tournament of the season, the major of Mons, was played the weekend 1-2 of March. Athens kickers were there with 5 players: Aggelos Tsakiris, Jaime Silva, Giorgos Aggelinas, Marcos Kapsabelis and Sarantis Papidakis.

Saturday 1 the team event was played. Our team was drawing in the group 12 alongside Issy-les-Moulineaux, SC Temploux and SC Flanders. After a dramatic series of games we lost our first game against Issy 1-2. But the comeback was superb. 2 wins (2-1 against Temploux and 4-0 against Flanders) bring us in the first place of the final standing as we have 3 teams with equal points.
In the phase of 24 to 16 our team had to face the club of Malta Hamrun. Unfortunately we lost 1-2 with the goal difference on our side.

The same day we had the veterans’ tournament. Both our players Marcos Kapsabelis and Giorgos Aggelinas had familiar results. They both managed to qualify from the group, just to loose in the second round (32 to 16). Severino Gara – who later won the tournament) beat Marcos 2-0 and Ron Corsten beat Giorgos 2-1.

Sunday 2 we had the individual open category. All five of our players participated in the tournament but just 4 of them made it to the knock out rounds. Marcos Kapsabelis lost both his group games against Justin Leroy and Chris Thomas.
Sarantis Papidakis with two wins and one defeat qualified as second of the group (leaving Sergio Loureiro out). Giorgos Aggelinas (1 win and two draws) was also second of the group. The same happened with Tsakiris as he lost against Darren Clark. On the other hand Jaime Silva was the winner of the group as he beat David Fraikin and drawn against Vincenzo Varriale.
In the first knock out only Aggelos manage to qualify, Jaime lost against Robert Lenz 0-3, Giorgos against Alain Hanotiaux 0-4 and Sarantis against Stefano Capossela 0-2.
Finally Tsakiris lost in his next game against Mark Gaucci 0-1.

After the third day of the season the standing of the Athens kickers’ players is:
In division one, the basic round is finished and as all the 12 players have played 11 games. Marcos Kapsabelis and Sarantis Papidakis managed to gain 12 points and they lay in position 7 and 8. Giorgos Aggelinas with just 5 points can find himself in the 10th position.
We have to mention that the last 3 players will relegate in division 2.
In the second division Tsakiris was absent (excused) and lays in the 8th position with 14 points. Argiris Poulidis with the same points (out of 13 games) can find himself in the 9th position. Fotis Labi with 5 points in seven games is in the 12th position.

In the last day of the Portugal league one, Jaime draw 1-1 against Sergio Ramos. He finally managed to keep the 5th place of the league.

Saturday 16th of February the 2nd national tournament for veterans was played in Ilioupoli (Athens).
Our players managed to win the three first places. Aggelos Tsakiris won the trophy and at the same time Marcos Kapsabelis was second and Giorgos Aggelinas third.
In the category’s ranking Aggelos Tsakiris lays in the first place, Marcos Kapsambelis is second, Giorgos Aggelinas third and Fanis Ellinas 6th

Sarantis Papidakis in the last 8

Sunday 3 of February, a national tournament was played in Athens. The tournament took place in the President Hotel in the center of Athens and six of our players were there.
Sarantis Papidakis had the best results as he made in to the last 8, just to loose against Triantafillou.
Giorgos Aggelinas,Argyris Poulidis, Aggelos Tsakiris and Marcos Kapsambelis reached the last 16.
Finally Fotis Labi didn’t manage to qualify from the Group.

The next tournament in Greece will be played Saturday 16th (only for veterans) and then Sunday 17th the national categories.

Last Sunday in Almada the 3rd serie of the Portuguese league was played.
Although that Jaime Silva lost two games he remains in the fourth position of the league. He has gain 10 points in 9 games and the possibilities are to finish in the very same position.

Greek Cup

Sunday 20 the annual Greek cup took part in Athens.
In the individual 6 kickers players participated in the 24th edition of the cup.
Aggelos Tsakiris (7 cup wins- record in Greece) reached once again the final. Unfortunately he didn’t manage to lift the trophy as he lost in a sudden death final against Triantafillou.
The next best Kickers’ players were Giorgos Aggelinas and Fotis Labi who reached the quarter finals. Giorgos lost against Hantzaras (2-3) and Fotis against Aggelos.

In the 7th edition of the teams cup Kickers lost in the semi finals against the later on winners Falcons Athens. Aggelos Tsakiris, Sarantis Papidakis, Marcos Kapsabelis and Giorgos Aggelinas gave a tough game against Falcons but they didn’t manage to reach the final.

Sunday, December 9 the 1st annual Greek tournament was played in Haidari. 4 Kicker players were present. Marcos Kapsabelis was the best of them as he won his group and managed later on to reached the semi final, just to loose against G. Koutis (who later on won the tournament).
Aggelos Tsakiris –second in his group- lost in last 16 against G. Koutis 0-1 in sudden death.Giorgos Aggelinas and Argyris Poulidis didn’t make it to the knock outs and they both continued in the consolation tournament. Both of them reached the semi finals and then they face one another. Argyris won in shots and reached the final. Unfortunately he lost against Priftis 0-1.

Sunday 9 December,our player Jaime Silva played in the IO of Almada.Seeded in group 2 made two easy wins.Vs Santos 3-0 and Vs Begonha 5-0.In the last 8 he beat 2-1 Nuno Noronha,but in the semifinal lost Vs Hugo Carvalho 0-1.A very good perfomance from Jaime,who gained some valuable points to make a top 50 WR entry.

Vienna calling

Weekend 1-2 of December the Austrian GP called ROYAL FLASH CUP was played in Vienna. Our player Giorgos Aggelinas was there in order to play in the veterans category. So, Saturday 1, we had the individual competitions. In the veterans we had 4 groups of 5 players each. Giorgos was in group 4, alongside Schitto (ITA), Lindner and Ruf (GER) and Bottana (SWI).
Giorgos didn’t start so good as he lost his first game against Lindner 0-2. Then in order to qualify he had a mountain to climb. He beat in his second game Ruf 4-0 and in his third game Botana 3-1. in the last game he had to face the Italian Schitto. Giorgos needed just a win (and a combination of results in the other group game) to qualify. Giorgos managed to win the “final” 1-0. Then we had three players Giorgos, Schitto and Lindner leading the group with the equal 9 points. The goal difference was in favor of Giorgos and the Italian as both of them had 8-3 and Lindner 7-3. so Giorgos qualified in the last 8 but we needed a penalty shoot out to decide who is the winner and who is the runner up of the group. Giorgos lost and he was second of the group.
So in the last 8 he had to play against Phil Redman (ENG). The normal time (30’) was not enough to find the winner. A goalless draw was there. The score didn’t change even in the sudden death. So Giorgos had to play another shoot out. But this time the end of the procedure find Giorgos smiling.
The qualification to the last 4 meant that he had to face the local Hasieber. The score in the halftime was 2-2. Nothing changed in the second half so Giorgos had to lay another one sudden death. But this time he didn’t make it. 3 minutes from time he conceded one and he was out.
Anyway he made a great tournament. Well done Giorgos.

Berlin GP

Saturday November 24, our player Giorgos Aggelinas traveled to Berlin in order to participate in the German grand prix. He played in two categories, veterans and open.

In the veterans he didn’t manage to qualified from the group as he gained just one point (draw 1-1 against Vogt, and lost 1-2 against Bom). So his first participation (out of Greece) in the veterans’ category wasn’t so encouraging.
On the other hand and in the open category he did well. First of all he adjusted his game in the famous cotton pitches of Berlin. He managed to win the group of four players, winning all his three opponents having also a clean sheet in those games (Kutrowatz 5-0, Tilgner 1-0, Vacke 2-0). His record continued and in the barrage stage as he beat in sudden death his rival Jesper Staal Nielsen 1-0. So he entered in the last 16. Then he had to play Saverio Bari. He lost 0-4 against the Italian who later on won the trophy.
Giorgos played in Berlin for third year in a row and he is looking forward for next season to extended his record to four times.

The next tournament that an Athens Kicker player will participate will be Vienna GP the coming weekend. Giorgos will be there and we wish him the best.

Weekend 13-14 of October the Athens Kickers team participated in the Welsh GP.

Saturday 13 we had the individual competition. In open category Argyris Poulidis and Giorgos Aggelinas unlikely didn’t manage to qualify from the group. Aggelos Tsakiris won his group (2 wins). In the barrages he beat D.Pawsey and qualified to the last 32. Then he lost to Valverde 1-2. Jaime Silva scored 4 wins (2 in the group, one more in the barrages and in the last 32 against M.Croatti) qualified to the last 16. Then he lost against K. Bennett who later reached the final.
In the veterans Marcos Kapsabelis (in his first appearance in the category) managed 4 wins in his group and another one in the quarter final against Stemitsiotis. So in the semifinal he had to play against JC Granados. Marcos lost 0-1 in a close game.

Sunday 14 we had the team event. Athens Kickers, in their first tournament of the season, had in their group White Star and Issy les Moulineaux. We managed two wins and the results were:

Next step to the way to last eight it was against Stembert B. Another win 2-1 and the results were: Kapsabelis- D.Denooz 1-2, Tsakiris- F.Denooz 5-0, G. Aggelinas- M.Ponthieux 2-0, Silva- Herberqc 2-2.
In last eight our team faced Real Murcia. Our team gave the ultimate fight but a bad call from the referees (a no way penalty kick) in the very last minute of the game gives the qualification to our opponents.
It was Tsakiris- Valverde 0-0, Kapsabelis- Granados 2-2, Silva- Clarke 1-1 and G.Aggelinas- Varney 1-2.(FAKE PENALTY).
So without a single defeat we found ourselves out of the competition instead the semi finals.
This unlucky refereeing is not capable to damage our morale. It makes us even stronger for the future

Kyriacos Ktenas moves to Brussels SC.

Athens kickers are announcing the transfer of Kyriacos Ktenas from our club to the Belgians Brussels SC.
We would like to thanks Kyriacos for his contribution to the club and we wish him the best in his new adventure. Kyriacos is a residence of the Belgian capital and so it would be the best for him to play with the local club of Brussels.

Athens Kickers in the world cup

Weekend September 1-2, the world cup of FISTF was played in les Herbiers- Vendees. Two of our players were there. Jaime Silva and Aggelos Tsakiris.

Saturday we had the individual competition. Both of them participated in the open category. Jaime Silva had a group with Kasper Bennett (later on he made it all the way till the final) and the American Zach Walker. Jaime finished second of the group as he lost against Bennett 0-1 and won Walker 2-0.
At the same time Aggelos had in his group Karl Heinz Haider and Carlos Flores (wr no 2). In his first game he draws Haider 1-1. So the last game against Flores was “a matter of live or die”. And the legend of Tsakiris was there. A great victory 1-0 sends him to the next round as top of the group.
So both of them made it to the last 32. Unfortunately both of them didn’t manage to qualify in this section. Jaime lost 1-3 against the Maltese Samuel Bartolo and Aggelos against the Austrian Robert Lenz (who scored the winning goal 2 minutes from time).

Sunday we had the team event. Our players faced one another for a ticket to the semi finals. In quarter finals we had Greece against Portugal. Portugal was the winner and so Jaime gained this fight and the metal. Portugal didn’t manage to go further as they lost in the semis against Malta.
Their individual results in the team event were: Jaime won DeHaas (Holland) 2-1, and lost against Intra (Italy) 1-4, Koutis (Greece) 0-1 and Bartolo (Malta) 0-2. Aggelos won M.Schultz(Germany) 2-0 and lost against Loureiro (Portugal) 0-3

We were there and this was just the beginning of a much promising season.

MAJOR OF MATTERSBURG

Sunday August 12 the Austrian Major of Mattersburg was played. A really important tournament as it is the last event before the World Cup of France.
An Athens Kickers player - Giorgos Aggelinas - was there.
He participated in the open category. The draw send him to group 6 alongside with Wolgang Leitner (later on he won the tournament) from Austria and Marco Pinausi from Italy. The first game was against the Italian. Giorgos secured the qualification as he won 3-1 (0-0 ht). At the maentime Pinausi had lost against Leitner 4-1. So the game against Leitner was to be decided who the winner of the group will be. Giorgos didn't make it as he lost 0-3 even if the score at the halftime was 0-0.
So in order to qualify to the last 32 he had to play a barrage game. His opponent was Heinz Eder from Austria. Although that he deserved something better according to many missed chanches he didn't manage to score. So the only one and very late goal that Heinz scored (at the very last second of the game) was enough to disqualify Giorgos.
Anyway the tournament was a very good one, worthly deserved to be a major. It is a tournament that it is a must to be involved in.
